PRESS RELEASE INDIGENOUS FRIENDS OF ISRAEL RE JOSH FRYDENBERG PROGRAM 30.5.24

Indigenous Friends of Israel co-founders Norman and Barbara Miller have applauded Tuesday night’s Sky News documentary Never Again: The Fight Against Antisemitism hosted by former federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg. The Millers say, “The Never Again documentary was a defining moment for Australia when a number of prominent Australian leaders called out the alarming rise of antisemitism in Australia.”

“These included former Prime Ministers John Howard and Julia Gillard, the current Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader, Peter Dutton, a former Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove, Denis Richardson, the former Director-General of Security for Australia, Catholic Archbishop Peter Comensoli and former Aboriginal ALP senator and Olympian Nova Peris.

“What is happening on our streets and in our universities with pro-Hamas protests is unAustralian and we need social cohesion, not division. We don’t want ethnic or religious conflicts from overseas threatening the multicultural fabric of our nation.

“As a network of Indigenous Australians, we support the view that the Jewish people are Indigenous to Israel, having had a presence of 4,000 years there and that the rebirth of the state of Israel in 1948 was a matter of decolonization not occupation. Arab Israelis interviewed on the Never Again documentary attested to Israel not being an apartheid state. READ MORE

Reconciliation Week 27 May – June 3

Reconciliation Australia website admits that this came from a Christian initiative:

‘National Reconciliation Week (NRW) started as the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation in 1993 (the International Year of the World’s Indigenous Peoples) and was supported by Australia’s major faith communities.

In 1996, the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation launched Australia’s first National Reconciliation Week. (Norman and Barbara attended the National Reconciliation Convention in Melbourne.)

In 2001, Reconciliation Australia was established to continue to provide national leadership on reconciliation.

In the same year, approximately 300,000 people walked across Sydney Harbour Bridge as part of National Reconciliation Week and subsequently across bridges in cities and towns to show their support for reconciliation.

Today, National Reconciliation Week is celebrated in workplaces, schools, and early learning services, community organisations and groups, and by individuals Australia-wide.”

26 May – National Sorry Day, officially the National Day of Healing, is an event held annually commemorating the Stolen Generations or children removed from their families
27 May – The successful 1967 referendum giving Indigenous people the right to be counted in the census and the federal government to make legislation for them.
3 June – anniversary of the 1992 High Court Mabo decision that recognized native title.

Also, comment on goat governments (Matthew 25:31-40) and a vision of the word martyrdom seen on a stone monument with a stone wall behind it 23.2.24. The word “martyrdom” was then front page of “The Australian” newspaper on 26.2.24 as well as in the same paper the day before.

The article quotes speaker at rally saying Palestinian mothers were worshipped when their sons or daughters were martyred …. so how are you going to defeat us?

INDIGENOUS EMBASSY OPENED IN JERUSALEM FEB 1

This was a groundbreaking event as Indigenous people from the nations gathered in Jerusalem for the opening. As Indigenous Friends of Israel, we were not able to be there but gave our support via our logo and words of support. Spearheaded by the Indigenous Coalition for Israel which was founded by former NZ cabinet minister Hon Alfred Ngaro and NZ academic Dr Sheree Trotter, it was a great step forward in showing international Indigenous solidarity with Israel.

Australia’s wonderful prayer pioneers above. Ps Kym Farnik and Rev James Condon helped Ps Warwick and Alison Marsh hand out lifetime awards to the above recipients who are mentioned in my video message. We were blessed to be given a book about sitting at the feet of Jesus written by Noel and Barbara Bell which I share about in my video also. Get a copy and be blessed.

Honouring the Prayer Pioneers of Australia and Sitting at the Feet of Jesus by Ps Barbara Miller

Give honour where honour is due – Romans 12:10 and Romans 13:7

We have had the pleasure of being involved with the prayer journey with many of these wonderful prayer leaders since at least 1998 and we thank God for them. We thank the Lord that we were able to attend the event organised by the Canberra Declaration to honour them in Sydney 17 Feb 24.

Do listen to the wonderful messages or prophetic words from Jesus to those sitting at His feet in the UK, the USA, Switzerland and Finland when I read out a selection at the end of this message. It could change your life.

EXPOSING THE
UNspoken Truth

United with Israel and Bring Them Home, invites you to join us at our upcoming vigil on Sunday, December 17, at 10am.

The primary theme of our vigil will centre around Women’s Rights, addressing the concerning issue that women’s rights organisations, UNfortunately are refusing or failing to recognise the atrocities committed on Israeli and Jewish women by Hamas on October 7.

By coming together, we strive to break the UNbearable silence, demand justice, and advocate for the rights of all women, regardless of their background.

Our community values unity, peace, and justice. We will express solidarity with the Israeli people and emphasise the urgent need for the safe return of the 138 hostages still held in captivity.

Please join us, and together we will re-affirm UNity, peace, and justice for the hostages and women of Israel.

We look forward to seeing you and your friends on Sunday 17 December to make a meaningful impact.

Indigenous Friends of Israel Respond to the UN Vote on Israel-Hamas War

NORMAN & BARBARA MILLER 15 DECEMBER 2023

“Each-way Albo has turned Australia into an each-way state trying to appease the antisemites and appear to be friendly to Israel at the same time. Chamberlain has shown us that the path of appeasement is dangerous as it just emboldens those with no moral conscience,” said co-founders of Indigenous Friends of Israel, Norman and Barbara Miller.

There can be no peace with an enemy that wants to destroy us with its genocidal claims of “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free.” This calls for the annihilation of the only Jewish state in the world and driving all its people into the sea. Only the hateful or naïve would agree with it.

Indigenous Friends of Israel was responding to the UN non-binding vote for an immediate ceasefire in the Hamas-Israel war. Australia was one of 153 nations who voted in favour of it, while the US was one of 10 nations who voted against it, and the UK was one of 23 nations who abstained.

We agree with Israel’s ambassador to Australia, Amir Maimon, who said he finds it difficult to understand how Australia can support Israel’s right to defend its people from terrorist aggression, while also voting in support of a ceasefire that will embolden Hamas.

“This war can only end with Hamas being totally defeated and the liberation of all our hostages,” he said.

Hostages Must Be Returned

The Millers said, “Shame on the Australian government voting for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war at the UN and shame on the UN. This is siding with a terrorist group rather than a nation legitimately defending itself against the most horrific terror act on October 7 and the repeated statements by Hamas leaders that they will continue to perpetrate as many attacks like October 7 as possible.

Indigenous Friends of Israel slams The Greens

December 11, 2023 by J-Wire

Indigenous Friends of Israel founders Norman and Barbara Miller condemn the ignorance, racism, and antisemitism of the Greens MPs in the Australian Senate in recent weeks and of the Greens’ mayoral candidate for Brisbane, Jonathan Sriranganathan.

The Millers wrote: “Mr Sriranganathan created a post calling for Zionists and Nazis to be excluded from a protest rally he was calling to scrap the Gabba Olympics. Was this in the name of inclusion which the Greens usually call for?

For someone who hopes to be Lord Mayor of Brisbane to be equating Zionism and Nazism shows political naivety and poor judgment and he should make an apology to the Jewish community of Brisbane as has been called for by the Qld Jewish Board of Deputies.

RECONCILIATION NEWZ BUZZ Dec 2023 no 1, Dec 3

Norman and Barbara spoke at the Celebrate Israel event at the Central Synagogue at Bondi Junction Sydney hosted by Dalia Sinclair. Norman and Barbara are pictured here with Dr Ron Weiser, Hon Life President of the Zionist Council of NSW, who also spoke, and Robert Schneider CEO of the Australian Friends of the Hebrew University. This is the 18th year the event was held to commemorate the anniversary of the 29 November 1947 resolution 181 of the UN to divide the British Mandate into a Jewish state and an Arab state.

There were interesting messages and informative video clips of a historical nature affirming the legality of the Jewish state. The Evangelical Sisters of Mercy attended and have given wonderful support to the Jewish community over the years. You can glimpse the seats reserved for the Hamas hostages in the background.

Barbara was asked to read a statement by Mark Pollard that he read at Tzemach in Israel in 2019 when a statue of the Australian Indigenous horseman, in the likeness of his grandfather, was unveiled. The statue shows him holding a Bible and leaning down to a fallen mate. She gave a brief introduction of when Norman and Barbara took a team of ANZAC Christians from Australia and NZ to Tzemach to pray in 2010 and took an international team of 50 there in 2017 to a special ceremony as part of the 100-anniversary commemorations at Beer Sheva etc. This video shows Dalia introducing Barbara. Unfortunately, a video of the whole event is not available –

Norman was asked to bring a blessing at the end of the event and it happened that he was to speak after Leeron who gave a very emotional talk about her reaction to the news of her friends’ fate as the October 7 massacre in Israel unfolded that day.

He was unable to speak, choking back tears. Eventually, he spoke about Israel rising up on the wings of eagles and he sensed to repeat Ruth’s words to Naomi in Ruth 1:16–17, This was not caught on the video but most of his message was. We had asked permission to invite some of our Christian Arab friends to attend and one of them said to us later that Norman’s tears spoke more than his words.

LEFT – Norman Miller at Bring Them Home rally at Bondi Beach Thursday 30.11.23. A large crowd gathered. RIGHT – Tali Kizhner, mother of Segev who was killed on October 7 in Israel spoke movingly to Sky News. Sharri Markson was interviewing her remotely and broke down during the interview. Tali and team spoke to other media as well. A group of Israeli families of those murdered or kidnapped on October 7 by Hamas is in Australia to raise awareness and get help to bring them home.

Unfortunately, the Israeli families were re-traumatised by a pro-Hamas group that blocked their entrance into a hotel in Melbourne at 10.30pm recently. The police had to take the Israelis to a police station for a few hours till they could clear the protestors who were not arrested. This was disgusting and the police are not doing their job.

There has been great support from the Jewish community as expected and a few Christians turned up to give support in Canberra. Support from Christians in Sydney has not been seen much physically though many are probably praying. We have found open arms to us for our support as antisemitism rises around Australian at an alarming rate.

LEFT – Barbara lighting a candle for those held hostage by Hamas. Fortunately, some have been returned in a prisoner exchange where 3 times the no of Palestinians held for crimes were released for Israeli hostages. Norman and I were blessed to be invited to the Central Synagogue on Friday night to the Shabbat meal and service as guests of Dalia Sinclair. The Rabbi and a team had just returned from Israel. Ambassador Amir Maimon and his wife attended.

Indigenous Friends of Israel Decry Islamic Preachers’ Calls for Jihad by Norman & Barbara Miller

8 NOVEMBER 2023

Indigenous Friends of Israel founders Norman and Barbara Miller refute the claims of Brother Ismail recently at the Al Madina Dawah Centre, southwest Sydney that Hamas is not a terrorist organisation. He also called for Jihad.

Indigenous Friends of Israel also raises concerns that not only has the Al Madina Dawah Centre not distanced themselves from this, but it has released a similar tirade from another preacher. No other Islamic organisation has taken issue with this call to kill Jews either.

Hamas is recognised as a terrorist organisation in Australia and other nations and the slaughter, torture, and mutilation of Israelis, many in their beds, the burning alive of families, raping women, beheading babies, killing children and elderly including Holocaust survivors and kidnapping is a terrorist act. It has unleashed a bloodlust around the world for Jewish blood, which is what was intended. This cannot be justified under any circumstancesSEE MORE

Unfortunately, Rabbi Ari Rubin from Chabad NQ had to draw attention to the bullying of Jewish schoolchildren in Cairns. Children at private and public schools called Jewish children “dirty Jews” and one 11-year-old Jewish girl was circled by schoolchildren shouting “Free Palestine” to her. This is inexcusable antisemitism, racism, and intimidation. Indigenous Friends of Israel has responded by trying to get antibullying education from Courage to Care into these schools. We were able to get Courage to Care into many schools in the Far North run by Catholic Education a number of years ago.

RECONCILIATION ROUNDTABLE BY ZOOM 2.11.23

We had an inspiring time when Ps Norman Miller called a Reconciliation Roundtable by zoom on Thursday 19 October. It was called to discuss and pray for strategies to move forward in healing and reconciliation after the Voice Referendum divided our nation and brought grieving and anger to many of the Yes Campaigners. Many of the participants are keen to continue and we are holding another one on Thursday 2 November at 6.30pm Brisbane time, 7.30pm Sydney time and 4.30pm WA time. Indigenous and non-Indigenous people are welcome. Please email us for the zoom link.

There was a powerful communion led by Ps Norman where he pulled the spear out of white Australia as part of removing the payback spirit. We discussed and prayed for:

  1. A new way forward. This included Closing the Gap as practical reconciliation with key performance indicators being met and money spent more effectively.
  2. We need a paradigm shift. We need to change the narrative from victim/oppressor to one where we can work more positively. This means accepting some personal and community responsibility by Aboriginal parents, communities and organisations.
  3. We need to promote the forgiveness side of reconciliation more as it is a two-way street. We could join the National Forgiveness Day on Feb 1 run by the Abdullah family in Sydney.
  4. A workbook could be developed from Barbara’s Voice Treaty Truth Book with 10 lessons that could be used by home groups, prayer groups and Bible Colleges etc.
  5. We could have an online course in reconciliation in race relations that has videos.
  6. We can invite First Nations Christians to do 5-minute videos that could be incorporated in this.
  7. We can promote trauma-informed counselling
  8. We will have monthly Reconciliation Roundtable meetings by zoom and have guest speakers with Q and A. Initially we will have another meeting in 2 weeks’ time to keep the momentum going.
  9. Somehow we need to reach out to schools, maybe through ILO’s or teachers.

We all have the message and ministry of reconciliation 2 Cor 5:17-21

NB I wrote this article for Canberra Declaration as I was concerned about the leaders of the Yes Campaign using similar terms re Australia and Israel i.e. both nations are illegal occupiers & that some First Nations leaders support

Legitimacy of Non-Indigenous Occupation of Australia Challenged by Yes Campaign

By Barbara Miller 27 OCTOBER 2023

Leaders of the Yes Campaign for the Voice referendum released on Sunday night, 23 October, an anonymous statement condemning Australians for voting no to their proposal to enshrine a Voice in the constitution. They are not accepting the democratic process in this nation and are calling it a shameful act that promotes colonialism.

They also said that racism, ignorance, and misinformation were factors, and they have received a bitter lesson from the vote. This ignores the fact that it was not a referendum where non-Indigenous people voted no, and First Nations people voted yes. There were yes and no voters in both camps.

The Guardian reported that the statement said that the Voice referendum ‘unleashed a tsunami of racism’ and Australia had chosen “to make itself less liberal and less democratic” by voting no. It continued that the result was so mean-spirited it would remain “unbelievable and appalling” for decades to come.

Occupied Territory?

More seriously, they have accused Australians of non-Indigenous heritage, who may have been born here and had many generations of family members living here, as illegal occupiers who need to have First Nations people recognise their right to live here. Who would do that? The government-appointed Referendum Working Group, who, along with Prime Minister Albanese, have managed to divide this nation with this referendum proposal? The editorial in The Australian on October 24 says the statement by the Yes campaign said:

“It is the legitimacy of the non-Indigenous occupation in this country that requires recognition, not the other way around. Our sovereignty has never been ceded.”

So, do they want all non-Indigenous Australians to leave Australia, or do they want co-sovereignty and co-governance and laws that will flow from this that will greatly change Australian life? If it is the latter, it is true that First Nations People did not cede sovereignty. However, two court cases have determined that First Nations Australians no longer have sovereignty — Coe v Commonwealth 1979 and the Mabo native title decision of 1992. Norman and Barbara led a prayer tour of 50 internationally based Christians through Israel and hosted a Sons of Abraham conference in Jerusalem on this visit as well as attending the Welcome the King of Glory conference.

The charge of the Australian Lighthorse, as well as the fighting by the New Zealanders and British, was crucial to opening up the way for Jerusalem to be wrested from 400 years of rule by the Muslim Ottoman Empire in 1917. A Jewish homeland was set up under a British Mandate and eventually, in 1948, the state of Israel was reborn.

RECONCILIATION NEWZ BUZZ Sept 2023 no 2, 27 Sept

Long-time Supporter of Indigenous Advancement Will Vote No to the Voice and Explains Why in a New Book Called Voice, Treaty Truth: Has the Christian Voice Been Heard?

Pastor Barbara Miller and her husband Aboriginal pastor Norman Miller will vote no to the Voice and she explains why in a new book called Voice, Treaty Truth: Has the Christian Voice Been Heard? The book covers the journey of how she got to this decision after being an activist in First Nations affairs for over 50 years.

On the verge of the Voice Referendum and as part of a heated debate about the Voice, this new book comes out on Amazon on October 6, just in time to inform Christians and other voters on referendum day October 14.

Author Barbara Miller says, “I wrote the book because I don’t believe the Christian voice, of First Nations and others, has been heard. I don’t want Australia to be divided by race and I value equality before the law and the Voice will breach this. These are basic Christian values. If it succeeds, the Voice will divide First Nations people themselves as well as the rest of the population.

“This book not only covers all the reasons to vote yes and all the reasons to vote no as well as the progressive no case but also looks at the spiritual dynamics and motivations behind the positions people are taking. As a pastor and former psychologist, this is an important area to explore, especially when there is so much confusion around the Voice.

“I have also been an activist in First Nations affairs for over 50 years and have written over a dozen books, many of them on First Nations issues. As a historian and sociologist, I have followed the Voice debate closely and covered the history leading to where we are now. Regrettably, I will probably lose some of my friendships forged with First Nations and other activists over many years. However, I also have to live with my conscience and I have to listen to a higher Voice – the Voice of God.

“I have had visions and dreams that have led me to re-examine my position and call out the support of major churches for a Constitutional Voice. This could lead to the possible constitutional recognition of Aboriginal spirituality when there is meant to be a separation of religion and state in the constitution as per section 116 which deals with religious freedom. This section prohibits the imposition of any religious observance which could include Welcome to Country ceremonies.

“Also, I do not believe we need another expensive bureaucracy that will cut across the many First Nations voices we already have with no guarantee it will Close the Gap or improve the lives on the ground for First Nations people.

“My husband Munganbana Norman Miller is an Aboriginal pastor and artist and is of the Jirrbal, Bar-barrum, and Wadjanbarra Yidinji people of north Queensland. He campaigned for many years for the recognition of First Nations people and the removal of racism from the constitution. He presented a giant boomerang with 360 signatures on the back saying “No Racism in the Constitution” to then-Speaker Bronwyn Bishop at Parliament House on 27 November 2013. Norman donated this to the Museum of Australian Democracy in Old Parliament House and they have included it in a special exhibition.

“His on-paper petition based on the Expert Panel’s recommendations was presented to federal parliament in two stages by Warren Entsch MP in December 2013 and February 2016 totaling over 5,000 signatures gathered by hand from around Australia.

“We presented a smaller version of this boomerang to Senators Jacinta Nampijinja Price and Kerrynne Liddle at Parliament House Canberra on July 31 this year.

“I launch my book by Zoom on 29 September at 6.30 pm but it is already available for pre-order and will be sent to those who have ordered it on 6 October LINK. A paperback will be available too but you might not receive it till after the referendum.”

Australia is at a crossroads. Is it a racist nation? Will reconciliation ever be possible? Will it be divided forever? Will we have two classes of citizens, Indigenous and non-Indigenous after the Voice Referendum on October 14? Do we have to deal with the original sin of colonialism as the foundation of Australia from which we can never have redemption or forgiveness?

Is separatism the way forward? Or can Australia heal after this divisive debate over the Voice to Parliament and government referendum? We are fighting for the very heart of Australia. We are soul-searching about who we really are as a nation and what we want to be and our vision of the future. We are told that whether we are black or white, First Nations or non-Indigenous that if we vote yes, we are enshrining racism in the constitution and if we vote no, we are racist, ignorant, and hateful. Years of work for reconciliation and to build a multicultural cohesive society in Australia are at risk.

Has the Christian voice been heard? This book gives a Christian response by a pastor and former psychologist who has been an activist and researcher in First Nations affairs for over 50 years. She explains why she has changed from supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart to voting no at the referendum.
Barbara is a prayer leader, sociologist, and historian who is a bestselling author and has written over a dozen books, most of them on Australian history involving First Nations people. She has also written books on the Holocaust and on Christianity.
