- He was the first Australian Aboriginal to stand up for persecuted Jews by protesting Kristallnacht, the start of the Holocaust in 1938, leading other Aborigines to do so
- He was the father of reconciliation in Australia between Jews and Christians
- He was the father of Aboriginal Sunday which became NAIDOC over the years or a national week of celebration of Australia’s First Nations peoples.
- He was a pioneer of the Aboriginal movement for social justice in Australia. He called it the “uplift” of his people.
- He formed the first national Aboriginal organisation in Australia in the 1930’s and much more
